Idle Speed Inspection - L12A4 and L13A6
L12A4, L13A6 engines
NOTE:
- Leave the idle air control (IAC) valve connected.
- Before checking the idle speed, check these items:
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) has not been reported on.
1. | Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve 2P connector.

2. | Connect a tachometer (A) to the test tachometer connector (B), or the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (C) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

3. | Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm (min-1) without load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
|
4. | Check the idle speed without load conditions: headlights, blower fan, rear defogger, radiator fan, and air conditioner are not operating.
Idle speed should be:L12A4 engine: 700±50 rpm (min-1) (in neutral) | L13A6 engine: 650±50 rpm (min-1) (in neutral) |
|
5. | Idle the engine for 1 minute with heater fan switch on HI and air conditioner on, then check the idle speed.
Idle speed should be:L12A4 engine: 850±50 rpm (min-1) (in neutral) | L13A6 engine: 850±50 rpm (min-1) (in neutral) | NOTE: If the idle speed is not within specification, see the symptom troubleshooting.

6. | Reconnect the EVAP canister purge valve 2P connector.
NOTE: You can use the HDS to inspect idle speed.
