Hi having some trouble with my audi transmission.

Q.Hi having some trouble with my audi transmission..I have a 1996 A6 Quattro Avant 2.8 with auto trans....My wife went to pull out on to the road, and she lost forward gears (except for L1)..Are there any sensors in or on the transmission that would cause this to happen? Reverse still works and L1.. Should i change fluid and filter or get a used tranny or what? Thank you.
More Info required on the display on the dash is the gears all illuminated (please look closely)
check and make sure that if u are in d does the d illuminate on the dash
please check the illumination on all gears please and let me know!!
Addition The dash gears have been flashing and flickering up and down. They go out and come back. The gears sometimes look like they are dancing with music.
More Info required ok!! there could be a fault w/ the trans range switch and it cannot tell which gear that u have selected?
also it can be the trans ecm please check the floor for dampness if dry then have the trans module scanned i bet it is the trans range switch!!

Answer CAN BE DONE BY BOTH BUT RECOMMEND AUDI SHOP IF THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE!!
